Sometimes, when you try to restart your computer, the black screen of death appears. The error is pretty frustrating and occurs due to the corrupted files, software and incompatible drivers.

Here, we are providing you multiple steps to fix the black screen of death problem in Windows.

  1. Complete the advanced boot

For the user of Windows 8.1, 8 or 7, here is the step-by-step guide:

  • Look for the OS DVD, create a bootable USB of your Windows OS.
  • Add your Windows DVD or the Bootable USB to the computer.
  • Restart your computer and click the F2, F12 and Delete keys to reach the BIOS setup.
  • There, you need to select the “Repair Your Computer” option.
  • Inside the repair option, you need to open the command prompt. However, the Windows 8.1 and 8 users can go straight to “troubleshoot” and select the “Advanced options” to reach the CMD.
  • In the Command Prompt, you are required to type “BCDEDIT /SET {DEFAULT} BOOTMENUPOLICY LEGACY” and click on the “Enter” afterward.
  • Now, type “Exit” and “Enter”. This will restart your computer again.
  • Finally, you can reach the “Advanced boot option” by pressing the F8 key.
  1. Uninstall the latest drivers

As you reach the “advanced boot options” by restarting your computer and pressing F8 key:

  • Choose the Safe mode and also log in as an administrator.
  • Go to the “Control Panel”.
  • Select the “Programs and Features” option.
  • Find the “View Installed updates” and click on it to see the recent drivers installed in your computer.
  • Do a right-click on the updates and select the “Uninstall” option.
  1. Downgrade the drivers

As you reach the advanced boot options like the previous method:

  • Log in as an administrator via safe mode.
  • Look for the “Device Manager” and click to open it.
  • Inside the Device Manager, you need to get the recently updated drivers’ list.
  • Do a right click and select the “properties” to find the “Roll Back Drivers”.
  • Now, uninstall all the unknown drivers available in the Device Manager. Right-click on the driver and select “uninstall”.
  1. Clean the registry

The corrupt registry can also be the reason of having this trouble. Hence, it would be wise to download and install the registry cleaner to resolve the problem.
